Some of history's greatest stories don't have clear endings, and that's what makes them so fascinating! In this ongoing class, learners will become history detectives as we investigate one real historical mystery each week. Using clues, primary sources, historical accounts, maps, artifacts, and eyewitness reports, we'll work together to uncover what might have happened and compare the evidence behind each theory.
Was there really a lost colony at Roanoke? Why was the Mary Celeste found abandoned with no crew? Who built Stonehenge, and how did they move the enormous stones? What really happened to Amelia Earhart? Could the Voynich Manuscript ever be translated? Each mystery invites learners to ask questions, think critically, and weigh the facts before reaching their own conclusions.
Throughout each lesson, learners will participate in discussions, examine evidence, vote on theories, and discover what historians know and what still remains a mystery. Along the way, they will strengthen important skills such as analyzing information, identifying reliable evidence, recognizing fact versus speculation, making logical inferences, and respectfully defending their ideas.
This is not a spooky or scary class. Instead, it focuses on real historical events, archaeological discoveries, unsolved disappearances, ancient civilizations, and puzzling artifacts from around the world. While some mysteries remain unsolved, every discussion is grounded in historical research and encourages curiosity rather than sensationalism.
Each class features a completely new mystery, so learners are welcome to join at any time. Whether your learner already loves history, enjoys solving puzzles, or simply likes asking "What really happened?", they'll have fun exploring the world's most intriguing historical mysteries while developing the skills of a true investigator.
This is an ongoing class with new history mysteries added regularly. Each new section begins with Week 1, allowing learners to experience the series from the beginning. Learners are welcome to join at any time, and if you'd like to know which mystery the current section is exploring before enrolling, please feel free to send me a message. I'm happy to let you know where we are in the rotation!
