Course Description

Can reindeer really fly? Does a reindeer’s nose glow? Do they actually live at the North Pole? In this fun and festive one-time class, learners will explore some of the most popular reindeer ideas found in Christmas movies, stories, and traditions. For each statement, students will vote fact or fiction before discovering what is true about real reindeer. Together, we will compare Christmas movie magic with fascinating animal science. Learners may discover how reindeer survive freezing Arctic temperatures, why their hooves are so useful, which reindeer grow antlers, and whether reindeer and caribou are the same animal. This class is designed to encourage curiosity, observation, and critical thinking while keeping the lesson playful and engaging. Learners are welcome to share their guesses, explain their thinking, and react to surprising facts throughout the class. We will end with a simple, step-by-step directed drawing of a reindeer. Students can follow along, add their own creative details, and create a festive picture to keep after class. No previous drawing or science experience is needed. Learners only need paper, a pencil, and something to color with.
