Course Description

Can one fifth grader really change the English language? Join us as we read Frindle by Andrew Clements and discover how one creative idea grows into something much bigger than anyone imagined. In this interactive four-week Book Builders class, learners will read Frindle while exploring themes of creativity, communication, perseverance, and the power of words. Each week, we'll read part of the book together, discuss the assigned chapters, make predictions, share opinions, and connect the story to our own lives. What makes this class unique is the hands-on creative project each week. Inspired by Nick's imaginative idea, learners won't just talk about the story. They'll create! Students will invent their own word, design a logo or advertisement, create a newspaper front page, and develop a marketing campaign to help their new word spread. Throughout the course, learners will strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, discussion skills, and critical thinking while expressing their own creativity. They'll have opportunities to share ideas, explain their thinking, and encourage one another in a fun and supportive environment. By the end of the course, learners will have finished an unforgettable novel, completed four creative projects, and discovered that even one simple idea can make a lasting impact.
