Ages 8-12ela
You may think it "floccinaucinihilipilification" (completely worthless or unimportant) or "codswallop" (nonsense) to learn funny words, but this class can make learning vocabulary words fun, and may even make your child "chuckle" (soft, quiet laugh) or "cachinnate" (laugh loudly). Either way, it's bound to be a memorable and "redonkulous" (absurdly funny) class. In this class, students will play a game of Jeopardy, where they hear a definition and then guess the matching word from three options.. Example: The definition "Shocked or amazed in a funny, exaggerated manner" describes which word? 1) Lolygag 2) Flabbergasted 3) Bumbershoot Students will take turns responding and earning points. The questions will be valued at 100, 200, or 300 points, based on level of difficulty. Students will record the words and their definitions in a notebook and draw a silly picture to help remind them of the word. Four different Word Groups are featured in this class (see syllabus). Join one or more classes. In addition to increasing vocabulary, this fun group activity will provide loads of laughs and opportunities to practice good sportsmanship.

Herbal Adventures: An Introduction To Culinary, Medicinal, and Cosmetic HerbsMy middle daughter is so interested in herbs and cooking, and I feel that it is hard to find classes on those types of topics for her age group. This was a deep class that went into all the benefits of herbs, not just for cooking, but how they help our healthy! My daughter loves talking about how beneficial Rosemary is! She will add herbs into our food and say, "I am going to add this, because it helps with this!"Also, she is very patient with wiggly easily distracted learners, and redirects them kindly so they don't miss anything!

"Bee" of Good CharacterThis class was AWESOME! My kids still talk about bees to this day and how important they are because of this class. It helped them to understand how important they are. They loved the art activity, and also learned so much from the character trait lesson that she did. I love that in so many of her classes, it isn't just about the subject matter, she ties in important aspects like character and kindness.

Drawing English Vocabulary: The Fun Way To Learn New WordsLOVED this class! This was such a neat idea and a fun way to learn a subject that can be somewhat dry in other contexts! Drawing the picture gave them a hands on way to experience the word, visualize it so it made more sense to them, and made vocabulary easily accessible for all kinds of learners!

Paper Collage Artwork ClubMy daughter loved the paper collage class! She is always cutting and pasting paper at home to create new things, and this class provided a warm environment that gently guided her to do something new. Little Women Classic Literature Book ClubI thought my 10yo girls might be a little young for Little Women, but I'm so glad I was wrong. Not only did they love the book (the unabridged version!), but they looked forward to their group discussions with Ms. Carri every week. They loved bringing the book to life through the simple projects in class and are not so patiently waiting to watch the movie now so we can compare how accurate it kept to the book.
