Grab your building bricks and join the Aldens for another exciting mystery adventure in this interactive Book Builders class inspired by The Yellow House Mystery! In this 4-week class, students will combine reading, discussion, creativity, and hands-on building as we explore one of the classic Boxcar Children mysteries together.
Each week, learners will read part of the story before class and then come ready to discuss clues, suspicious events, important discoveries, and character choices. During class, students will participate in guided discussion questions that help strengthen comprehension, prediction, sequencing, critical thinking, and storytelling skills. We will talk about how the Aldens work together to solve problems, how mysteries are built through clues and suspense, and what makes the story exciting and memorable.
After our discussion time, students will complete a themed building challenge inspired by the story. Build projects may include creating the mysterious yellow house, designing a forest campsite, building adventure tools and supplies, recreating favorite scenes, or designing maps and mystery settings from the book. Students are encouraged to use creativity and imagination while sharing their builds with the class. There is never just one “right way” to build!
This class is designed to create a relaxed, engaging learning environment where students can enjoy books while staying active and creative with their hands. It is especially great for learners who enjoy movement, hands-on activities, visual learning, storytelling, engineering-style thinking, or discussion-based classes. Students may use any type of building bricks or materials they already have at home. No specific brand is required.
Reading can be completed independently, with family support, or through an audiobook if needed. During class, students are welcome to participate at their comfort level while building and discussing the story together.
