Your child who can do the math but checks out the moment it doesn't mean anything just found a drop-in class where every session is a mission — and mathematics is the only tool that gets them through it. Most math class asks students to practice skills and wait to find out why they matter. Math Missions flips that. Every session drops students into a situation — a whodunit, an escape challenge, a rescue mission, a data mystery — where the math isn't something they do on the side. It's the only way forward. They have to figure out what they know, what they need, and what strategy might actually work — and then defend it. Each week brings a completely different mission type, so no two sessions ever feel the same. One week students are investigators building a mathematical case from clues. The next they're designers using geometry and measurement to build and test something. The week after that they're strategists looking for patterns and figuring out which approach actually works. The math shifts too — multiplication, fractions, decimals, measurement, data, ratios, geometry, estimation — but the emphasis is always on thinking with mathematics, not just completing it. Students are pushed to ask the questions real mathematicians ask: What do we know? What do we need to figure out? Is there another way? Is there more than one answer? How do we know? Can we prove it? There isn't always one obvious path — and that's the point. Comparing strategies, explaining reasoning, finding mistakes, and defending conclusions are built into every session because those are the skills that matter long after the mission is over.

Math Missions Live! Problem Solving AdventuresI recommend this class if you want your kids to "play" with math. This is no pressure math. Candice presents the "math mission" at the beginning of class. Then the students work through it in whatever way their brain works. Sometimes it's collaborative and sometimes its individual. She meets every kid where they're at. When my daughter needed a break from the traditional math lessons, this was our go to.

Kitchen Chemists: Oobleck!My daughter loves the whole Kitchen Chemist series. This Oobleck class was so fun. She played with it for days. What I love about Ms Parks is that she encourages the kids to be real scientists by asking questions, forming their own hypothesis and then testing it. She doesn't expect them to just do it exactly like she does. She encourages experimentation.
