Course Description

Welcome aboard the Titanic. In this interactive history class, learners will step back in time to 1912 and explore one of the most famous ships in history. We will learn why the Titanic was considered remarkable, what life was like for passengers, how the ship was designed, and what happened during its first and final voyage. Then, the emergency begins. As the events unfold, learners will make decisions about what they would do in different situations. Should you stay where you are or move to a safer area? What should you bring with you? When should you follow instructions? What choices could help you stay calm and safe during an emergency? Throughout the class, students will learn what actually happened aboard the Titanic and compare their ideas with the choices passengers and crew members faced that night. We will also explore the role of lifeboats, life jackets, communication, weather, and rescue efforts. The class will end with a hands-on design challenge. Learners will become inventors and create a rescue device that could help people during an emergency at sea. They may design a better life jacket, a signaling tool, a floating rescue device, a waterproof emergency kit, or another safety invention of their own. This class is designed to be interactive, discussion-based, and creative. Learners will make predictions, solve problems, think through historical decisions, and use what they have learned to design a practical rescue idea. By the end of class, we will answer the question: Could YOU survive the Titanic?
