Course Description

Pack your wagon and get ready to head west! In this interactive history class, learners will step into the shoes of pioneers traveling the Oregon Trail. We will learn why families chose to travel west, what the journey was like, what pioneers packed in their wagons, and some of the challenges they faced along the way. But learners will not just listen to the history; they will become part of it! Throughout the class, students will make decisions that could affect their journey. What supplies should you pack? Should you stop and rest or keep traveling? How will you cross a river? What should you do if your wagon breaks? What happens if your food begins to run low? As we travel along the trail, learners will discover what pioneers actually did in many of these situations and compare their own choices with real experiences from the Oregon Trail. This class is designed to be hands-on, interactive, and discussion-based. Learners will be encouraged to share their ideas, make predictions, solve problems, and think carefully about the choices pioneers had to make. By the end of class, we will find out: Could YOU survive the Oregon Trail?
