Course Description

In this one-time Young Patriots class, students will travel back to the War of 1812 and discover how Francis Scott Key wrote the words to The Star-Spangled Banner. Together, we’ll locate Fort McHenry on a map, explore the key events of the battle, and learn why the flag was such a powerful symbol of hope. Students will then become newspaper reporters, creating their own “front page” about the anthem’s story. Using the teacher-provided template, they’ll write a headline, summarize the battle, sketch a picture, and add fun facts—bringing history to life with creativity. By the end of class, students will have a keepsake newspaper that shows what they learned about the anthem, America’s history, and how God is our source of strength and protection.
