Get ready for another joyful, hands-on adventure with everyone’s favorite porcine wonder! This stand-alone 3-week class is perfect for new and returning students, no previous Mercy Watson classes required.
Each week, learners listen to two chapters of Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride while completing a playful STEM building challenge inspired by the story. We pause often to talk about characters, make predictions, notice problems, and celebrate big moments—helping young readers strengthen comprehension and discussion skills in a fun, low-pressure environment.
Each week features a creative engineering build connected to the chapters we explore:
🚗 Week 1: Build Mr. Watson’s Convertible
Students design a mini car or convertible for Mercy’s big ride! We explore wheels, motion, and stability while enjoying the opening chapters together.
🐷 Week 2: Wiggle-Proof Seat for Mercy
Mercy LOVES to wiggle during the car ride—so this week, students will design a seat or cozy compartment to help keep her safe and snug!
Kids can use cups, LEGOs, boxes, Play-Doh, or crafting supplies to create a little “Mercy-sized” seat that won’t tip over easily. This is a PERFECT challenge for ages 5–8 because it focuses on balance, stability, and creativity with no tricky mechanisms.
🛣️ Week 3: Adventure Ramp Challenge
Engineer a ramp, roadway, or obstacle course to show Mercy’s wild and hilarious ride. Students can test how smoothly their vehicles travel or how far they go.
To keep the story moving, families read the remaining chapters at home between classes through a parent read-aloud, independent reading, or the audiobook. This routine works beautifully: we read together, we build together, and we return ready for more Mercy-sized fun!
