Welcome to Lights, Camera, Fiction Junior: Science vs. the Movies! In this exciting discussion-based class, students ages 9–12 will explore the real science hidden inside some of their favorite family-friendly movies. From superhero strength and wild spy gadgets to flying carpets, crazy traps, and super-smart animals, each class focuses on one big question: Could this really happen in real life? Every week, students will be introduced to a new movie concept through a short, kid-friendly overview, so there is no need to watch the movie before class. Together, we’ll explore real-world science connections through engaging explanations, fun facts, guided discussion, and “Reel or Real?” style debates. Topics include human biology, engineering, flight, animal intelligence, force and motion, inventions, and more. Students will be encouraged to think critically, share ideas, ask questions, and compare Hollywood movie magic with real science in a relaxed and engaging environment. This fast-paced 25-minute class is perfect for curious learners who love movies, science, asking big questions, and discovering how the world really works behind the scenes of fiction and imagination.
