This ongoing creative writing club is designed for young writers of all experience levels who want to explore fantasy, fiction, short stories, novels, or even begin their first book series. Each week, students are guided through engaging prompts and mini-lessons focused on key storytelling skills such as character development, dialogue, and plot structure. With dedicated writing time built into every class, learners strengthen their writing abilities, grow their imagination, and gain confidence in sharing their ideas. A Creative Space That Grows With Your Writer This is a year-round, ongoing class where students can join at any time. Whether your learner is just starting out or already working on a larger project, this class provides consistent support, inspiration, and community. Each session includes weekly writing prompts, time to write independently, opportunities to share if they choose, and encouragement and guidance from the instructor. Students not only practice writing regularly, but also connect with other creative learners who share their interests. Skill Building Through Storytelling Throughout the course, students are introduced to a wide range of storytelling techniques and literary elements. From exploring new genres to strengthening core writing skills, learners gain tools that help them grow as writers. More importantly, they begin to see themselves as storytellers, developing both skill and confidence in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Personalized and Flexible Learning Each class balances structure with creative freedom. Students receive inspiring prompts, both written and visual, along with practical writing tips. They can choose to follow the prompt or continue working on their own stories, whether that is a short piece, a chapter, or a longer project. Student voice matters in this class. Learners are encouraged to ask questions, suggest topics, and request specific types of prompts to help shape the experience. Individual Support and Feedback Writers can receive additional support outside of class as needed. Students are welcome to submit their work for personalized feedback, whether they need help developing ideas, strengthening characters, organizing plot, or revising scenes. This one-on-one guidance helps each learner grow at their own pace and build confidence in their writing. A Supportive Writing Community This class is designed to be a welcoming and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable expressing their ideas. Writers of all levels, from beginner to advanced, are supported as they share their work if they choose, listen to others, and build confidence in their voice. The goal is not just to improve writing skills, but to help students discover joy in storytelling and creativity. What to Expect Each Week: *FOCUSED CREATIVE FREE WRITE TIME(20 minutes) Each class begins with a creative prompt or visual inspiration drawn from a variety of genres. Students can choose to follow the prompt or continue their own writing projects. Students then spend dedicated time writing independently. During this time, I provide guidance, answer questions, and support anyone who needs help getting started or continuing their work. This consistent writing time helps students build strong habits and develop confidence. *OPTIONAL SHARE TIME AND FEEDBACK(10-15 minutes) Students are invited, but never required, to share their writing with the group. This is a positive and encouraging space for feedback and discussion. Students who prefer not to share publicly can receive feedback privately. *WEEKLY WRITING TECHNIQUE AND SKILL DISCUSSION Each week also includes a short lesson on a specific storytelling element such as character creation, dialogue, world-building, plot development, or pacing. Topics rotate regularly and may be adjusted based on student interest. Ongoing and Flexible This is an ongoing class, so learners can join at any time without needing prior experience. There are no required assignments outside of class, though students are always welcome to continue writing between sessions if they choose. All that is needed is an interest in storytelling and something to write with.
