Do you have a passionate artist looking for a new theme for their next artistic creation? If so, you've come to the right place. In this class we will learn about Deaf art and the history behind ASL that impacted how deaf artists express themselves through various modes of art today. We will learn about ABC stories and how they are used for creative storytelling and poetry for kids in the deaf community to build literacy skills. Not all signed stories are ABC stories, and we'll take a look at some other examples of ASL stories and focus on the expressive side of storytelling. We'll also take a look at some drawings and paintings by deaf artists and talk about how their experiences as a deaf individual might have influenced their creations. We'll learn about how deaf individuals express themselves and remember their history through physical art, storytelling, dance, and even music! How the class values are exemplified through this class: Knowledge - Students will gain knowledge concerning a culture group and its history that is not as well known. Appreciation - Students will gain an appreciation for culture and art through the eyes of the Deaf. Creativity - Learning about Deaf culture and history will add a new spark of creativity to students' artistic expression.
