WonderWell Learning: An Outschool Alternative for Christians

If you're a homeschool mom looking for an Outschool alternative, it usually comes down to one of two things. You're tired from vetting every class and every teacher yourself. Or you want faith to have a place in what your kids learn, but Outschool doesn’t allow it. WonderWell Learning was built by homeschool families who got tired of searching for something that didn’t exist.

Why Parents Look for an Outschool Alternative

Outschool doesn't vet classes for a family's values. That’s on you, for every class, every teacher, every time. With thousands of classes on the marketplace and kids enrolling all year, it can quickly turn into a part-time job you never asked for. It's one of the most common reasons parents start searching for an Outschool alternative in the first place.

The second reason is content. Outschool's library is secular across the board, which works well for plenty of families. But if you want a classroom where faith gets to show up naturally, Outschool won’t be the best fit since classes built on a religious foundation don’t have a home on their platform.

WonderWell Learning began when our founder, Sandy, ran into both of these herself. Her youngest daughter was so excited about a new astronomy curriculum from The Good and the Beautiful, so Sandy went looking for an online class that taught it, the exact thing you’d go to Outschool for. Except that search came up empty. And so did every search for any kind of faith-based class. Teachers and parents in Facebook groups were noticing the same thing. Teachers missed being able to mention God in their own classrooms, and parents wanted classes that matched their faith and values. So Sandy grabbed a few homeschool friends, and WonderWell Learning was born.

What Makes WonderWell Learning a Different Kind of Outschool Alternative

There are plenty of online learning marketplaces out there now. WonderWell Learning was built especially for Christian homeschool families who want a community that shares their faith and values.

Every teacher on WonderWell Learning was chosen by another homeschool mom. Sandy sits down with every single one, and the only teachers invited in are the ones with the highest standards and the classes to prove it. We bring on teachers we trust with our own kids before they're ever invited to teach yours.

Everything you'd normally have to dig for is listed up front, so picking the right class is easy. Anything you’d want a heads-up on is spelled out on the class page under Content Considerations, and how faith shows up is right there in the Faith Lens. You’ll always know what's inside a class before enrolling, not after.

That’s the core difference between the two. On Outschool, you're the one vetting all of it. On WonderWell Learning, another homeschool mom already did, holding every class to the standard she keeps for her own kids. You don't have to take our word for it, either. You can see what's live right now on the WonderWell Learning class catalog and judge for yourself.

Who Outschool Serves Better

Neither platform is right for every family, so which one is the best choice for yours?

Outschool is built for a wider range of families. The class catalog is huge, and every class is secular on purpose. If you want the widest possible selection at every price point, with the most class times to choose from, Outschool built exactly that, and they built it well.

For a lot of families, it’s a great fit. For others, sifting through thousands of secular classes and not knowing which ones align with your family can be overwhelming. And exactly why many went looking for an Outschool alternative in the first place.

Who WonderWell Learning Is Built For

WonderWell Learning is built for a smaller group of families. It's for the mom who wants her kids with a teacher who shares her family's values. Her kids get to help pick out classes knowing she doesn’t have to spend the rest of the night deciding if it was the right call. If that's you, WonderWell Learning is a great Outschool alternative.
It’s also a much younger company. We started in 2024, self-funded by four homeschool moms and dads. We’re not a big company with investors behind us, but every intention to be here for the long haul. That means a smaller, more intentional catalog and fewer class times than Outschool for now.

Which to Choose: Outschool vs. WonderWell Learning?

When you’re deciding between the two, here’s our honest take. Outschool wins on scale and selection. If you need several classes for all your kids in the same morning window, Outschool has far more to choose from. WonderWell Learning wins on knowing exactly who's teaching your kids, on classes where your faith is welcome, and on peace of mind for mom and dad, knowing a class won’t come with surprises.

Which one matters more comes down to what your family is actually looking for.

And if you’re still not sure what that is, getting clear on your family’s homeschool style can help you decide! HSLDA has a helpful guide to learn more.

Common Questions About Finding an Outschool Alternative

  • What is a Christian Outschool alternative? It's an online class platform that works like Outschool, live, teacher-led classes for homeschoolers, but built around Christian and family values instead of a secular content policy. WonderWell Learning is one example, with the founder personally reviewing every teacher application and every class before it goes live.
  • Is WonderWell Learning a full replacement for Outschool? Not for every family. Outschool has a far larger catalog and more available time slots, and families who want the widest possible selection, or who specifically want secular content, are usually still better served there. WonderWell Learning is the best fit for families specifically looking for a faith-based option.
  • How can I be sure WonderWell Learning is the right Outschool alternative for us? The best way is to see for yourself. Our Acorn Library is free, with dozens of real recorded classes where you can meet the teachers and sit in on real classes before you spend a dollar. And when you find the right class, it’s all pay-as-you-go! No membership, just pay for the classes you want, when you need them.
